On June 23, PHS welcomed Rev. Ashley DeTar Birt, Rev. Shanea D. Leonard, Rev. Bertram Johnson, Rev. Dr. Derrick McQueen, and Rev. Dr. Eric Thomas for a roundtable discussion about LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the Presbyterian church.

Panelists shared how their personal experience shaped their ministry, how the church can be more open to all LGBTQIA+ people in the denomination, and how we can document a complete history of LGBTQIA+ people in the church.

The Presbyterian Historical Society is thrilled to welcome a new staff member this summer.

Archives Technician Amalia Cottrell is a recent graduate of Bryn Mawr College, where she earned a B.A. in History as well as a B.A. in Mathematics. While at Bryn Mawr, Amalia worked in the on-campus libraries and special collections. Amalia is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Library and Information Science.

On May 12, the Presbyterian Historical Society (PHS) looked back at previous General Assemblies that have impacted the direction of the church. This discussion was led by Lisa Jacobson, Senior Reference Archivist, and David Staniunas, Records Archivist.

On April 27, PHS hosted a roundtable discussion about the Community School of Tehran. The session was led by Matthew Shannon, Associate Professor of History at Emory & Henry College and Principal Investigator of the Community School Oral History Project.

The Community School of Tehran was a Presbyterian Mission institution whose internationalist ethos influenced multiple generations of English-speaking students between 1935 and 1980.
