Staff Update
This fall, Michael Carroll joined PHS as a part-time Archives Technician. A recent graduate of Temple University, Michael is working with Records Archivist David Staniunas and other members of the Technical Services team to ship and receive archival material, process collections, and perform maintenance and administrative archives tasks. Some of Michael’s specific duties include writing collection inventories, sorting and filing publications and print ephemera, and reshelving.
Michael is no stranger to archives, having worked as a Digitization Specialist in Temple University's Urban Archives and as a Digital Archives Assistant at Philadelphia's Institute of Contemporary Art. He’s processed rare lithographs by Toulouse-Lautrec and limited editions of contemporary silkscreen posters, as well as helped to collect, organize, and acquire a new collection from the morgue of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Michael spent a year in Rome studying art history and plans to continue with that subject as he furthers his education. He aspires to eventually work in the curatorial department of a modern and contemporary art museum.
Michael has already impressed us with his hard work and ready smile. Doesn’t he make taping boxes look fun? Welcome aboard, Michael!
