20 Years of 'A River Runs Through It'

October 9th marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the movie, A River Runs Through It, based on the semi-autobiographical novella by Norman Maclean (Rev. John N. Maclean’s son). The book and movie recount the experiences of a Presbyterian minister’s family in Missoula, Montana, in the early twentieth century. We have materials in our holdings about Reverend John Norman Maclean, D.D. (1862-1941) and the First Presbyterian Church in Missoula, where he served from 1909 to 1925. Under the leadership of Dr. Maclean and his wife, Clara, the youth groups flourished and the work of several women’s guilds was initiated.
