Guide to the Campbell Family Album

Archibald Campbell (1890-1977) and Helen Ott Campbell (1888-1972) were born in Philadelphia. After graduating from the University of Washington in 1913 Archibald Campbell attended Princeton Theological Seminary for three years at which time he was appointed to the PCUSA's Pusan Mission in Korea. Before sailing for Korea he married his fiancee, Helen Ott. Helen Ott graduated from Girls Normal School in 1910 after completing several courses at Bryn Mawr College. She spent a few years teaching and was appointed as a missionary with her fiancee in 1916.

The Campbells spent from 1916-1941 evangelizing and teaching at Kangei. In 1939 Mr. Campbell was appointed chairman of the mission. At the beginning of the Second World War the Campbells returned to the U.S. and remained there until the war's end. In 1947 they returned to Korea to the Taegu Mission. Archibald Campbell served as president of the Keimyung Christian College and of the Theological Seminary of Korea of the Presbyterian Church in Seoul and was one of four missionaries who remained in Korea during the Korean War. Helen Campbell received an honorary Doctorate of Literature from the Kyongbuk University at Taegu in 1958. The Campbells retired in 1958.
