According to Inventory of the Church Archives of New York City: Presbyterian Churches, the Throop Avenue Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, New York, was organized in 1862. The Throop Avenue Presbyterian Church was first reported to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. (Old School) in 1863. In 1945, it received another congregation through a merger, and became known as the Throop Memorial Rosedale Presbyterian Church, Rosedale, NY. In 1962, it became known again as Throop Memorial Presbyterian Church.

This congregation should not be confused with Throop Avenue German Presbyterian Church, which was the name of Hopkins Street Presbyterian Church before 1873. It was founded as Throop Avenue German Presbyterian Church in 1869. According to Hall’s Index of American Presbyterian Congregations, after 1873 it was called Hopkins Street until the congregation changed its name to Bushwick Avenue Presbyterian Church in 1906. Then in 1922, it received another congregation, Friedens Presbyterian Church, through a merger. Finally, in 1981, the congregation merged into the Westminster Bethany Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, NY.
