Biographical Note / Administrative History
Andrew A. Thompson was born in New Concord, Ohio in 1875. He graduated from Muskingum College in 1902 and then attended Allegheny Theological Seminary. In 1906, he was appointed by the United Presbyterian Church of North America's Board of Foreign Missions to the Egypt Mission and served there until his retirement in 1940.
Collection Overview
This collection consists of seven diaries which partially document Thompson's years of service in the Egypt Mission. The diaries covers the years 1911-1912; 1922; 1931-1932; 1934; 1936-1937. They generally describe his daily activities while on the mission field. Of particular interest is his diary/journal en- titled "Experiences on the Allegheny, 1911-1912," which describes a "preaching tour" made by Thompson and other UPCNA missionaries up the Nile River.
