Storage of Permanent Records

For security or other considerations you may wish to send permanent records to the Presbyterian Historical Society. We will gladly accept the following congregational records on deposit (that is, the ownership of the records remains with the synod or presbytery):

  • Minutes*
  • Permanent Judicial Commission Records
  • Newspapers/Newsletters
  • Standing Committee Minutes
  • Dissolved Church Records: Minutes, Registers, Charters, Articles of Incorporation, and Property Records

*Please note that the Society accepts only the original signed minutes--in paper or microfilm--for deposit. Unsigned, unofficial, and/or photocopied minutes may be housed at the Society as reference copies.

Before shipping records please contact:

Presbyterian Historical Society
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
425 Lombard Street
Philadelphia PA 19147

MICROFILMING

  • The Society will microfilm your records at cost. The Society established the microfilming program to address the problems associated with preserving manuscripts, published records, and other materials. In contrast to most commercial microfilming firms, the department uses archival quality microfilm and the microfilmer is trained to handle rare and fragile documents.
  • When the Society films records, archival master negatives and a positive use copy are retained at PHS. A positive copy is provided to the synod or presbytery whose records are filmed. This copy can be used on microfilm readers available at most public and college libraries.
  • For more information about microfilm services please contact the Presbyterian Historical Society. If you are unable to send your permanent records to Philadelphia for microfilming, contact the Society for suggestions about other microfilming vendors who will film according to ANSI/AIIM standards.
