of Presbyterian History
The Journal of Presbyterian History (ISSN 1521-9216) is published quarterly by the Presbyterian Historical Society, the official historical agency of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Founded in 1852, the Presbyterian Historical Society is the national archives and historical research center of the church and the collective memory of the American Presbyterian tradition. Abstracting and Indexing Articles appearing in this journal are abstracted and indexed in America: History and Life, Arts and Humanities Citation Index, ATLA Religion Database, Current Contents/Arts and Humanities, Historical Abstracts, Index to Book Reviews in Religion Online, Religion Index One: Periodicals, and Religious and Theological Abstracts. Instructions for Authors Originality By submitting a paper to The Journal of Presbyterian History, you are claiming it is an original work. The paper should not be under consideration for publication in another journal. Manuscript Length Your paper should not be longer than approximately 6500 words including references, although the length is negotiable. Manuscript Style and Format We generally follow The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th edition. References should be formatted as endnotes, not footnotes. Please submit four single-sided, double-spaced copies. Number pages consecutively, and format quotations of more than 60 words as block quotes. Include a short, descriptive title and an abstract of approximately 100 words describing your article. Process Upon receipt, the senior editors will determine if your submission should enter the peer review process. If the paper is peer-reviewed, the reviewer(s) will submit reports to the editors, who will decide on acceptance, revision, or rejection. The process normally takes several months. Typesetting/Artwork If your paper is accepted, you will be asked to provide the electronic file on disk or via e-mail. You will also be asked to provide appropriate artwork or make suggestions for artwork that might be available in the Presbyterian Historical Society collections. You will receive galley proofs to review. However, we cannot accommodate excessive editorial corrections at this stage. Copyright If your paper is accepted, you will be asked to sign a standard form transferring copyright to the Presbyterian Historical Society. Authors are responsible for obtaining all permissions for text or images reproduced. Complimentary Copies You will receive five complimentary copies of the issue in which your article appears. Additional issues are available for purchase. Subscriptions Subscriptions to The Journal of Presbyterian History are a benefit of membership in the Friends of the Presbyterian Historical Society.
