Shares Its Treasures -- At Home and Abroad
The
Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh recently received, on loan, a Gaelic Bible
from the Montreat Bible Collection. Exhibited in the museumĖs "Scotland
and the World" gallery, the Leach Family Bible illustrates the important
role that religion played in the life of Scottish Presbyterian emigrants.
This historic treasure will remain on loan until the end of 2000.
"Reverend
James Caldwell at the Battle of Springfield," by Henry Alexander
Ogden, a watercolor print from the Philadelphia office, is on display
in the Library of CongressĖ exhibition entitled, "Religion and the
Founding of the American Republic." Caldwell (1734-1781) was a Presbyterian
minister who served as chaplain during the Revolutionary War. The exhibit
can be viewed on-line at http://lcweb.loc.gov/exhibits/religion.
