The
American Presbyterian/Reformed As of December 31, 2002, the Presbyterian Historical Society suspended the Historic Sites Registry. Completed applications received by October 1, 2002, were considered for inclusion.
List of Sites, Organized by Synod
Since the early 1600s members of the American Presbyterian and Reformed churches have sought to serve Christ through divine worship and service in His world. The struggle to fulfill that ministry is symbolized by many places across the country, places hidden in rural hamlets and in urban sprawls. To seek out and mark these important places, the Presbyterian Historical Society operated the American Presbyterian/Reformed Historic Sites Registry from 1973 through 2002. The main factors in the consideration of a site were its uniqueness and its relation to important American Presbyterian/Reformed events, institutions, significant developments, and personalities. That significance could have been regional or national. The Registry includes sites, places, locations -- not organizations, except as they related to a specific site. All sites considered for registration were historically authenticated to the satisfaction of the respective Presbytery/Classis and of the Historic Sites Committee of the Presbyterian Historical Society. Upon approval of the application by the Presbytery/Classis and by the Presbyterian Historical Society's Historic Sites Committee, the name of the site was entered in the American Presbyterian/Reformed Historic Sites Registry at the Presbyterian Historical Society. An individually numbered marker was sent to the applicant and mounted on the site. The markers bear John Calvin's seal: a hand offering up the flaming heart in zeal and dedication to Christ.
