Celebrate! Your Church Anniversary

Clinton display
Clinton United Presbyterian Church celebrates its 300th anniversary with a historical display

Is your congregation getting ready to celebrate a red-letter anniversary in five years? or 2 years? or in 4 months? If so, perhaps the resources and ideas on this page can help.

The approach of an anniversary is an appropriate time to look back and celebrate the congregation's founding, its history, its ministry to people and to the community. This time of celebration can be a time for serious reflection and spiritual awakening. It can prompt members to reflect on the past and then look forward to the future with renewed vision, hope, confidence, and commitment. The very fact that you church has continued through 10, 25, 150 or 250 years says something very fundamental to the world: where two or more are gathered in ChristĂs name, God's presence is assured. Can you think of anything more appropriate to celebrate?

The PHS will not tell you what to celebrate or how to celebrate. Each church is unique and has its own interests, style of worship and play, and abilities. We can get your anniversary planning committee started with some Organizing Thoughts and some initial planning ideas. The Projects to Celebrate an Anniversary provides a number of ideas other churches have used when celebrating. After the celebration time is over, conclude with some special reflection sessions and Chart a course for the future.
