New York, Madison Square Presbyterian Church

According to Hall’s Index of American Presbyterian Congregations, the Madison Square Presbyterian Church, in New York, New York, was reported organized in 1853 and merged into First Presbyterian Church in 1919. According to the Work’s Progress Administration’s Inventory of the Church Archives of New York City, this Church was located at Madison Avenue and 24th Street until 1919. It continued to exist as Madison Square (located on 3rd Ave) while it was affiliated with First Presbyterian Church, and was also called the Madison Square Church House.

The Presbyterian Historical Society holds the following records of the First Presbyterian Church (New York, N.Y.), which includes entities that merged into the congregation:

  • First Presbyterian Church (New York, N.Y.) Records, 1717-1961. 12 cubic feet. (Call number: RG 413)
    • Collection consists of minutes, registers, and other records of First Presbyterian Church (1717-1954), Mercer Street Presbyterian Church (1835-1918), University Place Presbyterian Church (1843-1926), Madison Square Presbyterian Church (1853-1925), and Madison Square Church House (1914-1961).
